When jewelry designer Elsa Peretti renewed her contract with Tiffany and Co. in late 2012, she received a $47.3 million payment – but she says the hefty sum isn’t actually a lot of money. She has always received a royalty for Tiffany’s use of her intellectual property, as she is responsible for some of the brand’s best-selling items. Shortly after the contract was renewed, a Tiffany spokesman told Women’s Wear Daily: ‘Elsa’s designs are as timeless as they can be. The Italian model-turned-designer, now 74, had tried to sever her licensing agreement with the company two years ago, but ended up signing a new 20-year contract. Her creations – pendant necklaces featuring hearts, beans, starfish, teardrops and other simple shapes – account for 10 percent of the company’s global net sales. It was my price for the past,’ she told Vanity Fair. Her close friend Halston helped her negotiate the initial contract with Tiffany 40 years ago. In 2012, Tiffany reported revenues of $3.8 billion. Ms Peretti’s relationship with the jeweler spans 40 years: Tiffany began selling her iconic designs in 1974, and she’s since earned billions for the company.

On the high street it has faced greater competition from new rivals like & Other Stories, Urban Outfitters and Arket, as well as from established retailers like H&M and Zara, which offer designer lookalikes within weeks of their catwalk debut. Liam Patterson, CEO and founder at Bidnamic, a marketing technology platform, said: ‘Rather than adapting to modern customer needs with a strong ecommerce offering, the brand resisted innovation and was late to the digital party. In 2019 all of Topshop’s US stores closed, just 10 years after opening. Compounding the problem is Topshop’s sluggish digital investment and the aggressive rise in online, fast fashion retailers like Boohoo, PrettyLittleThing and Missguided, which have become the go-to destinations for Gen Z shoppers looking to snap up new, social-media worthy looks. Topshop also had a large number of brick-and-mortar stores – some 510 around the world, including 300 in the UK – which became less and less of a draw in the age of online shopping.

Kmart has released a surprise range of affordable jewellery with crystals from Swarovski for just $15. So I’ve just come to Kmart and I noticed these sets they have – they’re called Hidden Secrets,’ she said at the start of the clip, which is now on TikTok. They have a pink bracelet with all the charms, a blue bracelet … The fact they have Swarovski crystals in them, that’s brilliant,’ she said. A third added: ‘wow they are gorgeous, I have to look next time my daughter would love the bracelets’. She has inspired other shoppers to purchase the gifts for their loved ones. A Melbourne customer made the discovery at a store in Templestowe, in Victoria, and shot footage of each of the earrings, bracelets and necklaces in the collection. Looking like a cross between Pandora and Swarovski the Kmart jewels would make the ultimate last-minute Christmas present. And they have crystals from Swarovski in them for $15. I was so tempted to buy one for myself. I love those! So glad Kmart got them out this year,’ wrote one woman underneath the video. My daughter got the blue bracelet for her birthday,’ said another.

Walking away from the last Netball World Cup empty-handed isn’t a feeling Steph Wood wants to experience again, with the Diamonds intent on leaving Cape Town with the prized trophy in their possession. I still remember the feeling. Getting underway on Friday, this edition is the most hotly contested yet, with five genuine contenders – Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, England and hosts South Africa – among the 16 nations staking a claim for netball’s top prize. At the last tournament in Liverpool in 2019, the Diamonds tasted a hollow defeat in the showpiece game, falling by one goal to New Zealand to end a 12-year reign as world champions. The Diamonds are ranked world No.1, the Silver Ferns are reigning world champions, Jamaica took silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, England have finished third at the last three tournaments, and South Africa have 2011 World Cup-winning Diamonds coach Norma Plummer at the helm. I remember, ‘I don’t like losing, I hate the feeling’. Our versatility is a really great asset. Wood is one of seven players backing up from that World Cup and told AAP the loss stung badly, particularly coming after missing out on the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal to England. Australia have long dominated the game’s global showpiece, winning 11-times since the first tournament in 1963, and have never failed to play in the final.
